| 19.01 | Thesis Introduction |
Every thesis is normally divided into parts and sections in order to organize the material properly and make reading easier. There are some parts which are necessary, and some parts which may be invented by you.
The obligatory parts of a thesis include:
- Thesis introduction;
- Thesis body;
- Thesis conclusion;
- List of references.
The introduction is a necessary part of your thesis. It is also the first part of your work (though sometimes it can be the second part, if a thesis abstract is required).
Introduction presents the topic of your thesis. You should also state main objectives of your thesis in your thesis introduction. Besides, you should not forget to point out the importance and the novelty of your research, and its significance for the scientific world.
The main goal of a thesis introduction is to catch the reader’s interest and ensure your reader that he or she should read your thesis. So, you should try to make your introduction interesting and catching, but not boring.
In order to catch the reader’s attention, you should use not very formal language. Combine simple and compound sentences in an equal proportion. Appeal to the reader, using questions of different kinds. Give some examples taken from real life, which are sure to be understood by everyone.
But you should not forget that your thesis introduction, as well as the entire thesis, has a scientific nature. It means that you should not forget to state the topic of your thesis clearly, describe its goals and plan the direction of your research. Otherwise, your introduction will confuse your reader.
Before you decide that your thesis introduction is done, you should revise it in order to correct the mistakes. You should revise it once again after finishing your thesis writing and make sure that there are no mismatches.
