Literary Reports: An Explanation of Report Characteristics
Reports can cover a wide range of topics related to the specific area of study. Literary reports, as the title implies, are reports related to the area of literature. Although many of the aspects in reports are generally accepted, there are many specific characteristics, which distinguish literary reports among other types of reports.
In literary reports, the logic of the paper is not as clear as in other reports, where mostly they should follow the logic of the author/authors of the literary works discussed in the paper. Despite such characteristic, literary reports should have a distinguished thesis, which will outline the point that the writer will try to prove.
In order for the reader to follow the logic of literary reports, a table of contents and an abstract can be seen necessary to assist the reader in following the flow of the topics, and additionally will improve the organization of the paper. Keeping that in mind, the writer should clearly establish the criteria based on which literary works should be analyzed.
For instance, if the works will be analyzed based on the background of authors, historic periods, or common topics, then such aspects should be indicated at the beginning of the paper and strictly followed throughout the literary reports.
Literary reports can be distinguished from literature reviews, where in the case of the reviews, they can be a part of larger paper, and thus, covering more broad range of topics. Literature reports, on the other hand, can be considered as self-sufficient papers, which comparatively are more focused than literature reviews.
Generally, it can be stated that literary reports are less difficult than other types of assignments, a fact that can be explained in that literary reports do not require original contribution from the author, rather than choosing a perspective for the analysis.
