Undergraduate Essays: A Brief Explanation of the Differences
It cannot be stated that there are distinguishing characteristics in undergraduate essays. Such differences might occur only when comparing undergraduate essays with written work from lower or higher academic levels.
Other than that, undergraduate essays are ordinary assignments which difficulty is largely linked to the topic, the subject and the expected length of the task. Of course, the latter might not be applicable in cases when students are not familiar with essay writing in general.
Although it is hard to believe that such students exists, there are many foreign students who are not familiar with such format, having less emphasis put on writing in their respective countries. This article will attempt to explain in a simple manner the notion of undergraduate essays.
Undergraduate Essays
Usually, a comparison of undergraduate essays with other types of essays implies that such works are used as an admission requirement. In such context, undergraduate essays are mainly distinguished by the fact that their authors do not have the individual experience, expertise and/or knowledge that can be used to show the author’s career intention in the future.
Undergraduate essays focus on the way the author explores the world around him/her, while graduate essays will focus on the way the author’s experience shape his/her future decisions in terms of study or career.
Format
Undergraduate essays follow the general format of the essay, i.e. an introductory paragraph, a body and a conclusion. In admission essays, the task is usually reflective, and thus, a personalized perspective is provided, in which the author reflects on the skills acquired and the knowledge learned. The personalized perspective, nevertheless, does not imply that the author should write a diary. The essay should correspond to a particular question provided with the assignment.
