Background of the company

Walt Disney Company is a worldwide leader of family entertainment. In 1923, Walter Elias founded 1923 The company, “together with its subsidiaries and affiliates, is a leading diversified international family entertainment and media enterprise with four business segments, these are, media networks, parks and resorts, studio entertainment and consumer products” (Walt Disney, 2012a). Walt Disney Studios is the foundation of the prestigious Walt Disney Company. Walt Disney Studio is the center of World renowned animated features and live-action pictures. The Studio expanded to be the renowned Walt Disney Company. The strong dedication by the founders and employees of the institution has contributed to the massive growth. This treatise discusses the formal statements that are prevalent in the company. It also looks at the work environment of the organization (Walt Disney, 2012a).

Formal statements

The objective of the company is to be “one of the world’s leading producers and providers of entertainment and information, using its portfolio of brands to differentiate its content, services, and consumer takes” (Walt Disney, 2012a). The primary financial goals are to “maximize earnings and cash flows and to allocate capital profitability toward growth initiatives that will drive long term shareholder value” (Walt Disney, 2012a).

The mission of the Walt Disney Company is to be “one of the world’s leading producers and providers of entertainment information. Using their portfolio of brands to differentiate their content, services and consumer products, the company seeks to develop the most creative, innovative and profitable entertainment experiences and related products in the world” (The Element of Success, 2012). Core values for the company are ” imagination and wholesomeness” (Walt Disney, 2012a). The values of the company also entail “respect, courage, honesty, integrity, diversity, and balance” (Walt Disney, 2012a). The vision statement of Walt Disney is “to make people happy”. Walt Disney’s philosophy is “all our dreams can come true – if we have the courage to pursue them”. Organizational culture is the behavior formed by people in an organization over time (Walt Disney, 2012a).

Organizational culture

Practicing the formal statements of the organization such as mission, objectives and vision builds the organizational culture. From the formal statement, it can be deduced that the company is dedicated to providing unique products in the entertainment industry. This will ensure growth. It will also enable the company to remain a leader in the family entertainment industry. It is a deep rooted culture established by the founders. From the rapid growth of the company, it is evident that the employees have embraced this culture, and they are carrying on with it.

Work environment of the organization

“The cast members and employees are the cornerstone of our magic” (Walt Disney, 2012b). Therefore, “the company and its management are committed to treating all Cast Members with fairness, dignity and respect” (Walt Disney, 2012b). Besides, the management is committed to providing professional development, safety, diversity, team work, and respect to all employees. The company has strong ethical standards which creates a suitable working environment for all the employees. There is spacious physical working environment in the company. Employees have enough space for work stations, rehearsals, indoor, and outdoor events. Employees use unique language during work. This creates an environment for respect to both employees and customers (Walt Disney, 2012b). Employees also have a number of social events such as sporting. Such events keep them motivated.
